About dc-travel

Welcome to dc-travel! Just another independent travel blog.

Who writes here?

Nice that you found your way here! I’m Dirk (“DC”) and I write this travel blog as well as the videos for the YouTube channel for all conquerors of the useless and for all aviation geeks. And for travelers, of course.

What can you expect here and how can I help you on your travels?

dc-travel.de is an independent travel blog and is aimed at independent, individual travellers who organize their own flights and trips, do not travel in a group and are interested in trips to extraordinary destinations worldwide.

This blog aims at travelers and explorers who are not backpackers, but also do not take luxury trips. Who are interested in nature, culture, history and pop culture, and do not spend two weeks at the beach. Who know the difference between “traveling” and “going on vacation”. And who don’t pack a selfie stick.

In this travel blog and YouTube channel you will find practical travel tips, travel reports, ideas and inspiration for your trip – because traveling is not a simple activity, traveling is at best an art and a way of life and more than just getting from A to B. At least sometimes.  Not always. If you’re lucky!

And this is the feeling I want to convey with dc-travel.

The travel inspiration is enriched with travel experiences, flights, travel tips, accommodation recommendations, which hotels, buses, airports, flights, airlines, routes and activities and sights are worth visiting or not, what it costs, how to get there, which bus, train or plane to take and much more.

The trips I write and film about here are always planned individually: I book, organize and find everything myself – flights, routes, local transport, hotels, cities, rental cars, excursions, guides, tours, photo spots.

On site, I try out what I can do, how I can get around, what there is to experience. And where to get vegetarian food. After many years of traveling, I have become an expert on safaris in Africa and individual travel in South America, and I am happy to pass on my tried and tested insider knowledge.

So I always describe in my travels: how to get there, how to get around, what is worth seeing, where is the best place to stay and what is there to eat – mainly for trips to South America.

Does that make me an expert on South America? Hmm.

All the trips and travel tips in this travel blog have been done, tried out and experienced by me, I have visited and stayed in all the places and hotels mentioned and used public transport as described.

Off the beaten track: I tend to travel off the beaten track – you won’t find a report about the Baltic Sea or the Costa Brava here…

And: All trips are self-financed, there are no sponsors, I don’t have to take anyone into consideration when it comes to my ratings and opinions. All experiences are unfiltered and therefore authentic.

Also check out my YouTube channel here – and please subscribe! Thank you!

What you will not find in this travel blog

A demarcation always helps a lot in technical documents – and also here in the travel blog. I guarantee that the following topics will never be discussed in this travel blog:

  • Self-discovery trips and tips on how to live your life – you’d better figure that out for yourself.
  • Yoga and wellness.
  • Gourmet tips, recipes, restaurant reviews – and nothing about places with white tablecloths. Meat is not consumed here either!
  • Esotericism – no, pyramids don’t have mental vibrations. Neither do stones. And the earth is not flat. I’ve seen it myself!
  • Conspiracy theories, fake news, dangerous half-knowledge.
  • Religion – this is an atheistic, secular travel blog that is committed to the idea of enlightenment; fairy tales are not discussed on dc-travel.de.
  • Destinations of mass and package tourism.
  • Cruises – why I don’t just find them terrible as a form of travel.
  • Digital nomad stuff. Phew…
  • Tips for saving money when traveling: Do you travel to turn over every penny there? I certainly don’t. But there are no shopping tips or anything like that here either, except for local handicrafts. Shopping is not a hobby, consumption is not a life goal.
  • Odes on backpacking: I tend to stay less in hostels and dorm rooms, there are no party tips either, just a little bit of gringo trail! However, my travel recommendations are always for backpackers or smaller travel budgets.
  • Praise for rolling suitcases. Every traveler should be able to carry their own luggage. Rolling your suitcase over cobblestones is unspeakable.
  • Conspiracy theories – I feel a connection to science and enlightenment. I am in favor of vaccination, the earth is definitely not flat but round, Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution has actually been proven many times over.
  • Microadventures. Such nonsense.

And anyway, my motto is always: No busco nada. I’m not looking for anything.
